When you feel like you can't stand it any longer... what do you do?

By Homura

Key is a robot. She has a hard life and has every right to be angry and upset.

If I could reach into the screen and help Key, I would. I can’t, but maybe I could at least help you.

Below are 4 situations Key faces. After each one, there’s a poll on what you might choose to do if you were Key.

There are no correct/incorrect answers. Just choose what would bring you the most relief.

You also have the option to write in your own response or question. We’ll cover these in a future blog, so if you want to see our reply, bookmark this site and give our Instagram a follow.

Because Key is a robot, she can literally recharge. I suppose our way of doing that would be with food and water.

If you don’t have a friend or family member you trust to talk to right now, I encourage you to give a hope coach from D2L a try. Or, you could try any of the warmlines we wrote about.

As far as ways you could decompress while alone, any of those options could help. Yes, even screaming. Just give anyone you live with a heads up before you do that.

This is a tough one. It rarely goes like it does in the movies. Feeling humiliated and ashamed is one of the worst feelings ever.

Firstly, it’s okay to be angry and want to do something about it. Anyone would be. It might be tempting to escalate it even further and try to get revenge. However, there are ways to deal with those feelings without putting your anger on another person. Just take a moment to consider what would be safest for you. If you need some time, take some time. Take even 10 seconds to breathe and think.

The good news is that schools take bullying more seriously than they used to. You could tell a teacher or a school counselor. If you’re no longer in school or it’s not in session, consider calling a warmline or getting in contact with a therapist.

You do not deserve abusive treatment from anyone.

Sometimes people say hurtful things. It’s not easy to know what to do. Situations like this are complex and any decision has consequences. You could avoid the person hurting you, but this is usually only a temporary solution.

Again, you do not deserve abusive treatment from anyone. Even if it’s scary and you feel uncertain, you should talk to the police if you’re being abused in any way. If you want help with this process, talk to a therapist or a school counselor.

Any of those options might help. Whatever helps you, try it. What’s important is delaying doing something you might regret, even for an hour or a day.

If you want help or someone to listen, talk to a hope coach at D2L or use a warmline.

Remember: “Anger is not inherently evil, sadness does not automatically imply depression ... joy is not the same as irresponsibility and foolishness, and fear does not equal cowardice. The only time that emotions become dangerous is when we habitually bottle them up or discharge them impulsively without respect for other living things.” (Rick Carson, "Taming Your Gremlin”)
